VISION
The Department of Civil Engineering is committed towards the excellence in education, research, and professional development of the students, faculty members, and staff so as to enable them to productively contribute towards the sustainable development and advancement of our country.
MISSION
Mission 1 (M1): To educate students who will employ their knowledge, skill and innovation to excel as Civil Engineers and contribute fruitfully towards the development of our country.
Mission 2 (M2): To carry out productive research in order to discover and develop new knowledge and sustainable technologies that improve the practice of engineering in service to society.
Mission 3 (M3): To serve and improve the Institute, the Civil Engineering Profession, and society at large.
About the Department
The Department of Civil Engineering was established in year 1961. The initial intake of the students was 30. The first Head of the Department of Civil Engineering was Prof. S.C. Jain. The Department began teaching with 5 faculty members. For the first two years the classes and laboratories were held in the premises of the Allahabad Polytechnic, Allahabad. In the third year of its establishment, the main building of the Institute was constructed and the Department of Civil Engineering was located in the main building. In the beginning, the Department had only five laboratories viz. Survey Laboratory, Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering Laboratory, Concrete and Structure Laboratory, Transportation Engineering Laboratory and Public Health Engineering Laboratory.
In subsequent years, the intake of Civil Engineering students was increased to seventy. The M.Tech. Programme in the Department was started in 1970 on a regular basis, in the specialization of Structural Engineering, and Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering. During its journey of development, other M.Tech. programmes were started, and several new laboratories were also developed. At present, four M.Tech. programmes are offered by the Department viz., (1) Structural Engineering, (2) Geotechnical Engineering, (3) Environmental Engineering and (4) Transportation Engineering. The Department is also recognized as QIP center for M.Tech. and Ph.D programmes.
At present, the sanctioned faculty strength is 41, and the sanctioned intakes of B.Tech and M.Tech. students are 121, and 76, respectively.
